For the general population, Excessive Cost, Illness/Injury, Lack of Facilities Nearby, Feeling Uncomfortable/self-conscious, Lack of Skill/knowledge, and Fear of Injury are the major barriers to maintaining physical activity.  Most of these barriers are specific, or personal to the individual.  Only one, Lack of Facilities Nearby can be attributed to the physical environment.  Moderate barriers are experienced by more than 25% of Canadians.
